Corbett – Well! Almost / ghumakkar.com
These areas, once frequented by Jim Corbett in pursuit of the legendary Kumaon man-eaters, looked like sparsely populated villages with lots of luxury resorts thrown in between. … The plan for that day involved a few fun games before lunch and then some adventure activities in the afternoon along the river Koshi. I thought I could do better and booked a cab through the resort for a day trip to Nainital via Kaladhungi (place where Jim Corbett lived). …  read more…

Resolved Question: Do these people think that 2000 acres was miraculously demined by 5 machines in the past few days?
That demining project has been going on for months, as well as years previously, and it should be known that after mechanized demining there still remains the task of hand demining for all those that were missed by machines. There are also UN deminig certificates that need to be obtained prior to people being resettled on the land. Obtaining 5 more machines when we are soon in rainy season does not make sense. This is also why the US is training deminers at this juncture

Also Krishna’s plan of utilizing Indian experts in Sri Lanka for agriculture leaves the huge question hanging of how much need there is in India for some of this said expertise as farmers are killing themselves weekly from inability to grow food, unmanageable loans and the procurement of lands by multinationals that have not addressed these needs as they are awaiting to interlink all waterways in India when they full well should know that connecting contaminated rivers full of industrial, chemical and medical waste from their industries with unpolluted waterways will only contaminate the entire lot. India should think about methods of water harvesting.

Certainly, the “gullible” leaders of Sri Lanka will not fall for a tryst from Tamil-net as our religious practices are far different than those hyped in “western” and other media by the voice of the terrorist organization. The LTTE did much to greatly modified legitimate religious practices with their alternate reality models – they certainly will not succeed with Thereveda. For we well know the reality of the LTTE left thousands to be used as human shields, buried in pits behind behind LTTE police residences and used as human bombs and trained to commit suicide by the likes of Anton and Adele Balasingham. We just say no thank you to your religion of hate and remember that legitimate religion is much greater than the sick paradigms that you have created. Another noteworthy item is that we are much less fatalistic than you conjure us to be as we did not build our unique civilization, culture and philosophy based on the external machinations of those that would try and convert it to suit their own purposes.

I hope that both Vimukthi and his namesake realize that we are not caught between the worlds of our gandparents and that of our own – where our grandparents might have fallen in the equation does not have to be our fate whether by poison or bulletbut we well know that 4000 acre developments that are stylized after true or false names will only cause further despair and there will not be investors for those kinds of traps as the peoples will not stand for their moneys to be used for unconscientious development and this bare land that is spoken of is not so and is dotted with fishing villages, a canning factory, a military base and much more. The stupidities of men before us won’t be lost on foreign investors that well know that a rise in terrorism will be caused by the lack of facility in utilizing lands in such manner especially when ones forebear took on a name that wasn’t even his. For all we know that man died because somebody figured out that home truth.Kovilage Anton. People aren’t going to invest in that fable.

The world is full of hotel rooms for $100 and under
and travel deals for less than $299
as well as hundreds of thousands of empty hotel/resort complexes that drain from economies just trying to keep doors open- why doesn’t your PR vehicle say that they are 12 star hotels and charge 1200 a night? That would be amusing – but in a world of tight money investors will chuckle before they bite. In today’s reality IF 5000 rooms are found to be needed they can be constructed in a year.
The multitudes of steps that must be followed has nothing to do with this anarchistic route that is followed by the Ranil/UNP and his small group of trainees in other parties.
Though political groups seem to enjoy all this playacting the reality is that what happened in Sri Lanka wasn’t theatre. Also business and development have very little to do with theatrics.
People can “suggest” what ever they choose to “suggest” but it may have very little to do with fact as these 2 employees of the UN are being held for aiding in planning terrorist activities,
“The United Nations continues to be extremely concerned with the case of two staff members arrested by Sri Lankan authorities in June, being particularly troubled over suggestions that they were mistreated during the early days of their detention.”
http://www.itn.lk/news_02_20090910.html
These UN staffers are Sri Lankan citizens and the “suggestion” of mistreatment has nothing to do with the reality of many others than have

Resolved Question: Your opinion on a part of my novel please?
Ok, so this excerpt pretty much sets the tone for the novel. It’s sort of long, sorry. Just give advice and/or constructive criticism. By the way, the children are seven-years-old in this section.

“Do you think we’ll be friends forever, Dune?” a young, blonde, freckly girl asked a gangly, blonde boy. They were seated on a rock, with their shoes off, dangling their toes in the slow moving water of a river. Spring was already in full bloom; patches of yellow, light blue, and periwinkle dotted the hillside. The girl had woven a chain of flowers and hung it around her neck. She was now skipping stones across the water.
“Of course, Poppy,” Dune replied, pulling up grass one blade at a time while intently watching the horizon. The sun was going to set any minute now, yet the meadow was strangely quiet. Now, dusk, was the time the nocturnal animals began to stir.
“Do you think either of us will have any abilities when they test us tomorrow? Or do you think we’ll be stuck as boring Normals?” Poppy’s cheeks reddened as she asked this. Talking about abilities was taboo back home, back where their Thought Monitors let the Thought Police into all areas of their minds; punishments for thinking about or even mentioning abilities were often severe. Dune himself had been threatened with beatings a time or two for just accidentally saying the word “abilities.”
“Well, I’m not a Normal,” Dune whispered in the quietest voice he could muster, blushing as well, “Look what I can do.” His gaze focused on a boulder on the hillside. After a few seconds of intense concentration, Dune lifted his hand, and the boulder flew up into the air. It hovered there for a moment or two before falling to the ground with a resounding thud, producing a rather large cloud of dust. Dune dropped his hand to his side and blinked. His forehead was covered in a thin layer of sweat. That small feat took a lot out of him. He lay back on the cool rock and closed his eyes.
“Dune, that was amazing!” Poppy gasped. Dune could hear the awe in her voice, and he smiled.
Then he heard an ear-splitting scream, followed by the sound of Poppy yelling muffled words.
In an instant, he was on his feet, attacking the man who had sneaked up on them from behind and grabbed Poppy. He kicked and punched the man with all his strength, yet the man did nothing in retaliation. It was almost as though the man couldn’t feel Dune attacking him.
And then Dune realized that the man couldn’t feel anything. He looked up at the man’s face.
The man’s eyes were cold and metallic, no life in them whatsoever. He was a Thought Bot.
There was only one thing left that Dune could do to try to save Poppy.
Gritting his teeth, balling his hands into fists, and staring intently at the robot, Dune concentrated on ripping the arm from the Thought Bot’s torso. At first it seemed like nothing was happening, but then, with a sickening creak, the arm flew from the robot, wires hanging limply where the limb used to be. The arm flew above the river, hovering briefly before it plunged into the water.
Poppy yanked herself free and ran to Dune’s side. Fear was apparent in her eyes. She looked very much like a deer who had had a run in with a bear. Her braids were in disarray, and she had smudge marks on her clothes where the Thought Bot had grabbed her.
Dune yelled in pain as something hit him in the shoulder. The Thought Bot, realizing it couldn’t hold on to its query with just one arm, had resorted to throwing stones at the two children. Dune turned his focus back to the robot.
With a loud gasp, Dune collapsed on the ground as a golden force field enveloped the two children. The stones feebly hit the shield and bounced off, harmless.
“Poppy,” Dune sputtered weakly, “I’m going to see if I can get you out of here. Don’t move.”
He concentrated on Poppy staying safe, Poppy back at home, and then, with a sound like a thunder clap, no one was standing beside him anymore. It was just the Thought Bot and himself left in the meadow.
Dune was extremely fatigued and weak. His head throbbed, like someone had hit his forehead with a hammer. With a last grunt of effort, he forced the one-armed Thought Bot to go somewhere else, somewhere it couldn’t harm Poppy. Then the golden shield completely disappeared.
Dune lay on the ground, not enough power left inside him to send himself away from the meadow. The unconsciousness called his name, and he succumbed.
