The saga not ours to script: Driving from Texas to Guatemala …
Once I crossed, there were guys before the Mexican bridge (if you recall, much of our southern border is a river J Rio Grande for the USA, Rio Bravo is what it’s called in Mexico…same river). …. There was a strike on by the campesinos, many of them Mayan, over some land that was supposed to be rented/given to them to use for farming. Well, apparently it didn’t work out their satisfaction, because they are blocking the border and 3 other places around Guatemala! … read more…

Resolved Question: still think Republicans are monsters?
did you know that
1.1970 was a banner year for Nixon’s environmental achievements. On New Year’s Day, Nixon signed into law the National Environmental Policy Act. Six weeks later, he put a sweeping legislative program of clean air and water, waste reduction and open space acquisition before Congress. Six months later, Nixon established EPA. And on New Year’s Eve, Nixon signed the Clean Air Act into law.
2.President Abraham Lincoln – Abolished Slavery
3.President Benjamin Harrison signed into law the 1890 Forest Reserve
4.President Theodore Roosevelt policies eventually led to the creation of the modern U.S. National Park
5.As president, Roosevelt established 155 national forests, two-thirds of the present system, five national parks, 18 national monuments and 55 bird and game preserves, the cornerstones of our national wildlife refuge system.
More than anyone else, Roosevelt made stewardship of our natural commons an enduring national priority.
6.The Alaska Lands Act is the single largest land protection achievement in U.S. history. Protection of an overpowering wild landscape of remote mountains, vast forests and free-flowing rivers was secured for future generations in 1980, thanks partly to Senator William Roth of Delaware.
7.Gerald Ford started the U.S. down the long road to a rational energy policy, by signing, in 1975, a bill containing his proposal for motor vehicle fuel efficiency (CAFE) standards.
8.Bush took Theodore Roosevelt’s Antiquities Act precedent much further than any of his predecessors by establishing marine preserves that cover nearly 215 million acres, big enough to swallow Bush’s home state of Texas, plus Oklahoma.

Resolved Question: What are some good Canadian songs about Americans?
Of any genre. Like here are some off the top of my head.
1) Diamond Joe White – High Rider (The John Ware Story)
Lyrics:
Left his home that Lonestar Texas land to take a chance on Alberta
The wind sometimes blew cold but he knew somehow it would get better so like a fugitive at hand
They called him John Ware and there never was a horse he couldn’t take,
No man whoever rode the range would ever call old John by Buddy’s name,
A prouder man never crossed over the border there weren’t too many better on the plains,
Texas grace brought change onto the prairie like a rainbow following the rain,
To that high river country John worked from job to job you heard some things,
He invested all his cash in cows and ____ so he’d have enough to stay,
Settlers came began tearing up the prairie the cowboy couldn’t understand the change,
Peaceful man John moved a little further westward then settled on the border of the range (3x)
And when he died oh the prairies hardly cried,
seemed like he was gonna live forever,
like the times in which he lived before him we’ll never see again,
Never will there be another like him.
He was born eee high-rider born to make his mark upon the day,
A black man from the South and a cowboy that would show his work some way;
A prouder man never crossed over the border there weren’t too many better on the plains,
Texas grace brought change onto the prairie like a rainbow following the rain (3X),
2) Leonard Cohen – Democracy Is Coming – GREAT SONG
Lyrics:
It’s coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It’s coming from the feel
that this ain’t exactly real,
or it’s real, but it ain’t exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It’s coming through a crack in the wall;
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don’t pretend to understand at all.
It’s coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It’s coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin’
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.
It’s coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It’s here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it’s here they got the spiritual thirst.
It’s here the family’s broken
and it’s here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It’s coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we’ll be making love again.
We’ll be going down so deep
the river’s going to weep,
and the mountain’s going to shout Amen!
It’s coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
Sail on, sail on …
I’m sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can’t stand the scene.
And I’m neither left or right
I’m just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I’m stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I’m junk but I’m still holding up
this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
whoops the first 2 lines of the first song are:
He was born eee high-rider born to make his mark upon the day,
A black man from the South and a cowboy that would show his work some way;
Edit: Blame Canada from South Park??? is absolutely retarded. It’s shallow and thoughtless, it’s obviously comedy though, to be taken with a grain of salt. It’s a joke.
A lot of Canadian tributes to America are intelligently thought out. Like the John Ware story about the African American and his legacy in Alberta.
Or perhaps the impact of American settlers in Canada.
I was reading about the Red River Rebellion and they discuss the role of the Americans in dealings with the Metis and the HBC and Canadians.
Today American’s have a stigma for being materialistic, but when it comes to American individuals, Canadians don’t just diss and shun them, they embrace some of the American attributes within moderation to the extent the enhance the Canadian culture.
