The owner of a large ranch has 3000 yards of fencing material. He wanted to enclose a rectangular piece of grazing land along a straight portion of a river, if the fencing is not required along the river, what are the dimensions of the largest area he can enclose? what is the area?
Resolved Question: Herding bison to another spot?
My uncle owns a bison ranch, and were having a bit of an over graze problem. He owns about hundred acre property, full of green grass and has a river running through it. We have about forty head of them, and for some reason they keep on staying on one acre of land, and they’ve over grazed that part. They won’t even budge, we’ve tried everything! We tried to chase them out with our four-wheelers, tried to lead them out of the acre with “bison treats” which they love but when the “trail” came over the acre they over-grazed, WE EVEN SHOT A FLARE! But they won;t leave so we where thinking of herding them to a more grassy area. Good idea, bad idea, or you got a better idea?

So I live in the city and hate it, i figured i would work off the land with some animals. What are some good farming/ranching jobs i could do that would pay well other than crop growing that i would be able to do in a few years? (i’m only 14 right now… so maybe in 7 years, around 2015 in and around Calgary Alberta or High River) What courses/schooling should i take in order to do this?
